The construction of the Žďárské vrchy House of Nature was planned for about ten years, but the thorough renovation started only two years ago, in 2018. The building has retained its external appearance and character, but inside is a modern 21st century exhibition.
The Zdarske vrchy House of Nature is run by non-profit non-governmental institution Chaloupky o.p.s and ČSOP Kněžice. Ecocentre Chaloupky Krátká is one of seven Chaloupky's ecocenters, which operates in the entire Vysočina Region. For 10 years, it has been offering its educational programs for schools from near and far. During that time, thousands of children have passed through the old farm, gaining new information and knowledge about nature and the landscape, thus creating a deeper view of the world around them. With the construction and opening of the Žďárské vrchy House of Nature, none of this disappeared. On the contrary. Chaloupky continues to offer educational programs, just in a new, more modern environment. However, the basis of the programs still remain research backpacks, binoculars, GPS navigation devices, compasses, maps, magnifying glasses and field guides.
And because love (including nature) passes through the stomach, the nearby Hodůňka, little pub, is a part of the visitor center. You can find it in the former reeve’s house in No. 12 (from 15.7.2020).
So when you are planning a holiday trip, definitely do not forget Krátká in Žďárské vrchy. But beware! The Nature House of Žďárské vrchy supports eco-tourism. We welcome you when you come on foot or arrive by bike, scooter or ski. You can park comfortably and safely at Tři studně or in Nové Město na Moravě. Cars in the streets of Krátká arouse resentment among the local natives. The people of Žďárské vrchy are peaceful and hospitable, but they respect their nature and can defend it. That's why it's so beautiful there. So let's not spoil it.
The renovation and installation of the exhibition were based on the initiative of the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic. The project was co-financed by the European Union - European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Program Environment in the amount of CZK 33.6 million. The reconstruction was carried out by the company STAREDO from Nové Město na Moravě, the exposition was prepared by the company NWT Hulín.
The guide and mascot of the Zdarske vrchy House of Nature will be a water-dipper.
